In 2008, BBS saw a turnover of NOK 1.7 billion, and handled 1.5 billion transactions amounting to a total of NOK 61 763 billion. The Group currently has 1 000 employees in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. The head office is in Oslo, Norway.
Since being established in 1972, BBS has achieved a central role as an operating place for the banks’ common operational payment infrastructure in Norway, currently distinguished as a separate company in BBS Infrastruktur AS.
The solutions developed by BBS and the banks have led to Norway becoming a world class standard in regards of card payments, electronic invoicing and ID solutions. Traditionally, BBS has concentrated on the Norwegian market. Today, many of the most important customers have aimed their business outside of Norway’s borders. As a direct result of this, BBS now sees the Nordic Countries as its domestic market and many of our solutions can be used across national borders. Our long-term aim is to play a leading role in Northern Europe in all areas in which BBS currently holds a strong position in Norway.
Banks and financial institutions are primarily the most important customer groups,
but the knowledge and experience that BBS has achieved through efficiency improvements are also used for customers in other industries and markets within the public and private sectors.
Strengthened position through acquisitions and strategic agreements
BBS and Danish PBS have come together to form Northern European Transaction Services,
NETS. NETS will be one of Europe’s leading companies in card transactions processing.
BBS has positioned itself in the Nordic card payment market through the acquisition of
BBS AB (Ingenico AB) in Sweden and
LD Betalingssystemer in Denmark.
BBS has a strategic cooperation with the IT company
ACOS which is one of the leading suppliers within the development and sale of software to public administration. BBS owns 34 % of the shares in the company and the cooperation
has strengthened both companies as suppliers to public departments.
International recognition
In October 2006, BBS and the Norweigan BankID Scheme were awarded the international "eema Award for Excellence in Secure Electronic Business".
BBS participates in international expert groups such as
European Committee for Banking Standards (Mobile Payments Workgroup, 2003-2005) and
Mobey Forum (Mobile Authentication and Business Ecosystem workgroups, in 2005 and 2006). In January 2007, BBS arranged the world’s first international mobile signature based on the ETSI – MSS standards.
BBS plays an active role linked to internationalisation and the development of global standards. For example, the company has led a number of work groups in the
European Payment Council (EPC) and the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS).
